The Middle Atlantic District recognizes that coaches and volunteers selflessly contribute to the development of our athletes through fostering life skills outside of the gym, home and classroom.
Coach of the Year & The Vivian Lotz Volunteer Award Eligibility Requirements
- Member in the Middle Atlantic District of the AAU in the current AAU membership year (September 1- August 31)
- Have served a minimum of two years as a non-coach volunteer with the Middle Atlantic District
- Previously nominated individuals who have not already won this award
Nominee Exclusions: Middle Atlantic District Sports Directors, officers, previous award recipient
Application Requirements
- Nomination letter(s) submitted by current and former athletes, parents of athletes, colleagues, and/or friends
- Completed online nomination form
- Nominations will be accepted December 1, 2025 – March 1, 2026
Award Notification
- All nominees will be notified of committee’s final decision
- Award recipients will be posted on website
- Award recipients will receive an invitation to Awards Banquet

Coach of the Year Award
This award goes to the coach whose guidance, outstanding contributions, and leadership best exemplifies the Middle Atlantic District AAU.
Nomination letter: Tell us how the coach leads by example, builds relationships and bridges the gap between themself and the MAD-athletes. This letter is the essential part of the selection process. Below are prompts that may serve to guide your nomination letter.

Vivian Lotz Volunteer of the Year Award
Volunteers are an integral part of the Middle Atlantic AAU team and club. Please nominate someone who has gone above and beyond expectations to uphold the AAU mission and serve its members.
Established in loving memory of Vivian Lotz, Ph.D., this award honors her legacy of selflessness, kindness, and unwavering dedication to shaping the adults of tomorrow. Her generosity, leadership, and heartfelt commitment as a teacher and counselor at William Penn High School served as a beacon of hope and inspiration for countless students.
A founding member of the Middle Atlantic District AAU Scholarship Committee, Vivian believed deeply in the power of volunteerism to transform lives. Volunteers are the heart of Middle Atlantic AAU, and through this award, we recognize those who embody the same passion, dedication, and values that she so fervently upheld.
